April 22, 2015 I What do you get when you ask 220 Independent & Assisted Living seniors and 496 Team Members to go through their homes and closets for unwanted and unused items? You get three busloads full of items for donation to the new Kelowna Gospel Mission Thrift Store!

This April, Baptist Housing Enhanced Living Communities (Village at Mill Creek, Village at Smith Creek and Sun Pointe Village) all eagerly participated in their 3rd annual “Stuff The Bus” event to benefit this year’s recipient, the Kelowna Gospel Mission. Residents, their families and Team Members were encouraged to begin collecting items including gently used clothing, bedding and linens, household and kitchen items and even furniture at the beginning of April for the event.

Both the Village at Mill Creek and Sun Pointe Village also held fundraising barbecue luncheons for Residents, families and Team Members where everyone was encouraged to donate monetarily or with an item to “Stuff The Bus”, collectively raising $665.80 which was presented to Randy Benson, Executive Director of the Kelowna Gospel Mission.

The thrift store staff were kept busy all day unloading the bus as it arrived, not once (as anticipated) but three separate times. Items donated will be sold through the Kelowna Gospel Mission’s new Thrift Store location at 125 Roxby Road, previously occupied by the MCC Thrift Store.
