Wildfire Update

News

The wildfires are very close to home for the Baptist Housing family. I would like to acknowledge the amazing effort of our team in response to the Mount Law fire threatening West Kelowna. The safety of residents and team is our greatest priority at Baptist Housing, and our team is always prepared to respond to wildfires. Out of an abundance of caution, we have evacuated Smith Creek Village residents to our other Kelowna locations.
All of this happened while some of our own team living in the area were also on evacuation alert, along with some family members of our residents. Our Green Valley Estates in Armstrong has also been on evacuation alert in the last week due to the White Rock Lake fire. Thank you to those families who are assisting by taking their loved one home temporarily, and thank you to those volunteers and former team members who have offered support. The response of help and assistance from all shows how much we care for each other – this is what makes us strong together.

Our evacuation plans are under the guidance and direction of Interior Health Emergency Operations Centre and we are thankful for their partnership and support to care for our residents and team. Please pray for the safety of our team, residents, wildfire crews, and all those living in wildfire areas. We rely on the comfort of Psalm 139:5 which reminds us that “I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too - your reassuring presence, coming and going.” Encircle us with your presence, safety, and care, Lord.
