About The Role 

As a Cook, you will play a vital role in creating nutritious and appealing meals for our residents in Independent Living. With a focus on quality, safety, and resident satisfaction, your culinary expertise will contribute to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment. You will ensure that all meals meet health and safety standards, dietary requirements, and budgetary guidelines while maintaining the highest level of care for our residents.  

This role is based at 2000 Goldsmith St, Victoria, BC V8R 0A2, with opportunities for full-time or part-time work.  

Full-Time Temporary: January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025  

Shift: Sunday - Wednesday, 8:30 am - 6:30 pm  

Part-Time: Permanent  

Shift: Friday - Sunday, 9:00 am - 7:00 pm 

Responsibilities: 

  • Preparing meals that exceed resident expectations for taste, quality, and presentation.  

  • Ensuring dietary needs and menu plans are met while maintaining budget constraints.  

  • Managing inventory to minimize waste and control costs.  

  • Upholding health and safety standards in food preparation and storage.  

  • Supporting a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment.  

  • Collaborating with team members to enhance resident satisfaction. 

     

Requirements 

Must Haves:  

  • Current qualification(s) as a cook, with experience in volume food preparation.  

  • Food Safe Level 1 Certification.  

  • Legally permitted to work in Canada.  

  • Effective English communication skills, both written and verbal.  

  • Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.  

  • Strong organizational skills to meet time-sensitive demands.  

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.  

  • Successful completion of a Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check.  

Nice to Haves:  

  • Previous experience in a long-term care or independent living facility.  

  • Familiarity with food service environments catering to seniors.

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Wage: $27.75/hour.  

  • Paid vacation (4-8%) and sick leave entitlement.
