The Activity Coordinator plans, implements, evaluates and participates in therapeutic wellness programs for the Independent and Assisted Living Residents in Marrion Village. The Activities Coordinator coordinates the wellness activities for each group of residents in a collaborative process with the Assisted Living Manager, Chaplains, and Activity Assistants to ensure activities are developed to meet individual needs, promote community and optimize the holistic wellness of all Residents. Responsibilities include scheduling of internal programs and external outings and preparation of an activity calendar that meets residents’ activation, life skills, recreational and social needs. The AL Activity Coordinator will develop meaningful relationships with residents and other team members including a strong working relationship with the Chaplain.

Program Leadership

  • Develops activity programs which address the differing needs of Assisted Living and Independent Living Residents, meet the needs of individuals, and support the Baptist Housing model of wellness
  • Develops annual goals and objectives for the Activity Department
  • Develops and circulates a monthly activity calendar
  • Conducts and participates in programs and activities
  • Drives the Baptist Housing bus when transporting Residents to external activities and maintains all required record keeping related to bus use
  • Assists Residents to make a comfortable transition to the community by providing welcome teas, introductions to other Residents and Team Members, and orientation to their new home
  • Interviews each Assisted Living Resident upon admission and establishes an Activity Plan as part of that Resident’s care plan
  • Reviews, assesses and adjusts activity plans on a regular basis through ongoing observation, Team Member input, and activity attendance
  • Observes and assesses Residents needs and interests during activities and interactions and revises programs as needed to maintain optimum attendance and benefit to Residents
  • Meets regularly with the Assisted Living Coordinator and Chaplains to collaboratively plan the delivery of care and effective programs to meet individual Resident needs and optimize wellness

Team Leadership

  • Fosters the building of relationships between individuals within the Marrion Village community
  • Provides leadership, mentoring and support to Team Members in the Activity Department
  • Ensures department coverage and program delivery through effective Team Member scheduling and workload distribution
  • Participates in the selection and hiring process
  • Conducts probationary and annual performance appraisals of assigned Team Members
  • Supervises and manages the performance of assigned Team Members
  • Conducts progressive discipline, as required, in consultation with the Director of Human Resources
  • Coordinates and monitors a team of volunteers, who assist with planning and implementing programs and events
  • Participates in on-call coverage for after hours emergencies as a member of the Oak Bay campus management team

Reporting

  • Provides statistics and progress reports as required

Networking and Relationships

  • Maintains knowledge of community programs, services and resources promoting wellness and provides information to Residents and families
  • Liaises with external agencies, such as volunteer agencies, health organizations, local schools, community and church groups, and recruits resources for programs and events to meet Residents’ emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual needs
  • Liaises and collaborates with all other Baptist Housing Activities Managers

Budgets and Analysis

  • Assists in the preparation of an annual activity budget
  • Responsible for the Activity Department monthly budget

Tracks and reports all expenditures Professional Development

  • Attends work-related conferences and seminars to promote and maintain professional development

Health & Safety

  • Establishes, influences and supports a culture of health and safety
  • Demonstrates safe working practice and encourages Team Members to work safely
  • Takes initiative and makes suggestions for health and safety improvements in the workplace
  • Identifies hazards and unsafe work practices, corrects these when possible, or reports to a Supervisor
  • Ensures discussions regarding safety topics are a regular part of team meetings
  • Ensures Team Members, Volunteers and Consultants are adequately trained regarding hazards in the workplace and safe work procedures
  • Monitors Team Members, Volunteers and Consultants and enforces compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations, safety policies and safe work procedures
  • Provides necessary emergency first aid to Residents until medical support arrives Other duties as assigned and as reflective of individual strengths
