Reporting to the Controller, you lead our payroll team, collaborating closely with HR and Finance leadership. You are accountable for continuous improvement of our payroll processes and accurate timely completion of bi-weekly payroll. This is a key role in ensuring compliance with payroll regulations and tax laws while providing exceptional service to our employees. This position plans, develops, implements, and maintains payroll systems and processes required to support a complex payroll operation.
About The Role
As the Payroll Manager at Baptist Housing, you ensure accurate and efficient payroll operations while fostering a positive team environment. You lead and mentor our payroll team, collaborate with human resources and finance leadership to enhance payroll processes, and ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations. This role is ideal for a collaborative servant leader who is passionate about delivering excellence in payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
Team & Program Leadership
Lead and mentor payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
Collaborate with human resources and finance leadership to assess and implement process improvements.
Mentor payroll team on complex payroll issues and professional development opportunities.
Support the implementation of HRIS/Payroll technology.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
Oversee payroll operations for a complex organization with five collective agreements and almost two thousand team members.
Maintain compliance with collective agreements, federal, and provincial legislation.
Responsible for continuous transformation of the payroll process, by identifying opportunities to streamline payroll processes.
Participate in special projects, evaluation of new systems and procedures, and other ad hoc projects and analytics to support senior management.
Analyze payroll internal control processes and procedures and serve as primary liaison for audits and regulatory inquiries.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration. Focus on human resources or accounting preferred.
Current Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) certification required.
Five to seven years’ payroll experience in a unionized organization with over 500 employees. Health care experience strongly preferred.
Two to four years’ payroll leadership experience.

Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package, featuring an annual salary of $90,000 to $105,000. Your comprehensive benefits include employer-paid extended health and dental coverage, along with a generous four weeks of vacation. Additionally, we provide RRSP matching contributions and support for your ongoing professional development.
