Art Talk | Agnes
Our Featured Artist is Agnes.
How long have you been involved with this art process at Baptist Housing?
Moved to Shannon Oaks- Oak Bay fairly recently within the past year.
Who do you enjoy sharing or making art with?
I used to paint at Schoolhouse in Qualicum every Wednesday. I have quilted since 1985 and I enjoy making quilts for the grandchildren.
Why do you like being an artist?
It's an expression of myself, I find pleasure in colours and form. It's something you do for yourself, don't paint for the sake of others.
Who first inspired or taught you this craft?
When I lived in Manitoba on the prairies, there was a woman that was known for painting crocuses and she needed a 10th member to sustain a painter's group. I offered to join and I have painted ever since. Pauline Pike was also a wonderful teacher at Qualicum, she inspires ease of expression. The quilting started with a simple 6 week course and then in Qualicum I worked with a Master Quilting group.
Any advice for future artists?
Just do it. Don't make excuses.
