It started with a single location in South Vancouver. Today, Baptist Housing has grown to 21 senior living communities in B.C. and this week marks 60 years of impactful senior living

Vancouver, B.C. (June 26, 2024) – It was 1964 when Dr. Jack Pickford and members of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches decided to act on a vision they had to provide much-needed care and support for seniors within their own communities. Two years later, the first Baptist Housing community, Clarendon Court in south Vancouver, opened and as it turned out, it was only the beginning.

Over the next six decades, Baptist Housing would expand to 21 communities – Vancouver, West Vancouver, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford, Victoria, Kelowna, White Rock, Salmon Arm and Armstrong.

A non-profit, faith-based organization, Baptist Housing marked its rich history of serving seniors today with a 60th anniversary celebration at Clarendon Court, where it all started. With a mission of creating supportive environments where seniors can thrive and experience an enhanced quality of life, Baptist Housing today serves more than 2,750 residents, who are supported by over 2,500 team members.

Since our inception, we have been steadfast in our commitment to providing exceptional care, fostering vibrant communities, and embracing innovation in senior living,” said Board Chair Lorrie Wasyliw. “This milestone reflects the dedication and hard work of our team, the support we receive from our residents and their families, as well as collaboration with our valued partners. Together, we have built a legacy of excellence in senior care that continues to evolve and positively impact the lives of those we serve.”

“From affordable seniors rental housing to independent living, assisted living, and long-term care, Baptist Housing continues to innovate and adapt to meet the changing needs of seniors in British Columbia,” shared CEO Marc Kinna. “With a focus on resident wellness, community engagement, and spiritual well-being, Baptist Housing remains a trusted leader in senior living success. As we look to the future, Baptist Housing remains dedicated to its mission of enriching the lives of seniors and providing them with a place to call home.”
