Baptist Housing Recognized as a Winner of FortisBC’s 2024 Efficiency in Action Award for Outstanding Sustainability Initiatives
Baptist Housing is proud to announce that we have been awarded FortisBC’s 2024 Efficiency in Action Award. This prestigious honor highlights our ongoing commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, reflecting our dedication to fostering a better environment for both our residents and the broader community.
As part of our efforts, Baptist Housing participated in FortisBC’s commercial gas engine-driven heat pump (GEHP) pilot program, installing cutting-edge, energy-efficient systems in multiple locations. These units were successfully implemented at three of our communities: Evergreen Terraces in White Rock, The Heights at Mt. View in Victoria, and Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna.
In addition to this initiative, Baptist Housing also took part in a custom energy study at our three Kelowna locations: Sun Pointe Village, Mill Creek Village, and Smith Creek Village. This study led to the adoption of the innovative LUX Laundry system and an upgrade to our Direct Digital Control system, further optimizing energy efficiency.
Thanks to these initiatives, Baptist Housing’s team has far exceeded our goal of reducing 600 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Erich Klein, Director of Sustainability and Maintenance, highlighted that Baptist Housing is now reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by an estimated 2,300 tonnes each year, which is equivalent to planting 2,613 trees or permanently removing 500 cars from the road!
These efficiency upgrades have not only minimized our environmental footprint, but they have also improved our operational sustainability by reducing energy costs. This recognition from FortisBC is a testament to Baptist Housing’s leadership in sustainability and our ongoing efforts to create a healthier, greener future!
