Happy 100th Birthday to Adele!
Adele (Kornell) Northan began caring for seniors and others in the community in the 1950s, when she and her husband, a Baptist minister, started taking people who were leaving the hospital into their home. The Kornells went onto build a 14-bed facility on Pandosy, Still Waters Private Hospital and the Joseph Benjamin Building, the Village at Smith Creek (formerly the Westside Care Centre) and Sun Pointe Village.
Beginning in 2003 the Kornell family began a major construction project: adding onto the Joseph Benjamin Building, demolishing the Still Waters Private Hospital and finally, beginning in 2007, building the Village at Mill Creek Campus of Care, where Adele currently resides. Baptist Housing purchased the Village at Mill Creek, along with Sun Pointe Village and the Village at Smith Creek (formerly the Westside Care Centre) from the Kornell Family in 2008.
On Monday, October 5, 2015, Adele celebrated her 100th birthday! Adele needed to go to a family event off-site, and so the Village at Mill Creek Administrator arranged for a Resident Assistant and a Recreation Assistant to accompany Adele and her family to Lakeshore Place for a presentation, in the Village at Mill Creek bus! The special mode of transportation was a hit and Adele loved it, telling everyone that she had hired the driver when he was young.
Happy birthday to you, Adele!
