We Celebrate Seniors!

Did you know that there is an annual day to celebrate seniors in Canada? National Seniors Day falls on October 1st and is an opportunity to recognize and honour the lives and contributions of our senior population. This year, the Team at Village at Smith Creek invited guests from Pine Acres Care Home to celebrate with them for a special time together.

To begin the event, Volunteer Darlene Lesperance gave a speech honouring our elders and Adult Day client Sonny Forsyth recited a humourous poem about aging.  The Ukuladies, a renowned singing group who often seem to show up at special events in Kelowna, sang 3 songs with actions from the Adult Day Team Members. Finally, Kate Dusik, Marketing Manager, joined in to lead a singalong.

Nationally, seniors across the country are to dance on this day, and so two "Sit N Dance" songs were also led. There was a great turnout and we are so privileged to highlight and celebrate the life within our senior living communities.
